In 1953 when Stan was in the second grade at David D. Martin primary school in San Lorenzo, California, he entered a poster design contest open to the whole school. He won, and received a first place prize of $5.00 along with an article in the local Hayward paper "The Daily Review". This experience instilled in him a desire in early childhood to become an artist.
" As a child I was fastenated with color. Some of my earliest memories are of my mother's flower garden and butterflies with their wonderful patterns and hue. I also had similar interests in the graphic nature of postage stamps and flags of the world."
Stan was awarded first prize in painting for his sophomore, junior, and senior years at Sunset High School in Hayward, California.  After graduating, Stan received a scholarship to the Academy of Art in San Francisco. He later majored in painting and minored in printmaking at Brigham Young University.
" Not only the study of watercolor technique interested me, but also that of the color-field, hard-edge school. Painters of this genre, such as Joseph Albers, Frank Stella, Robert Indiana, and Kenneth Noland, influenced my style of minimal motifs, clean lines and bold color. Alex Darais my design professor at Brigham Young University was instrumental during my development as a young artist."
In his junior year at B.Y.U. Stan entered the Springville National Biannual and won second prize in watercolor. In his senior year he was awarded the Faculty Merit Award for watercolor. The following year, he entered a hard -edge painting titled: Pyramid #2 in the Utah Painting and Sculpture 1972 Show and won the Merit Award for painting. More shows and awards followed through the years.
" Photography has been a nice counterpoint to my painting....perhaps, as I become more skilled in digital image software, a new line of of "digital art" will surface here on my website."
In July, 2003 Stan applied his skill of photography and design in the genesis of stanzart.com. Now, images of his creations are in the arena of the World Wide Web for all to enjoy.
" Thank you for taking the time to visit and giving me the opportunity to show examples of my work to you in a private setting .... capturing the feel of a well lighted gallery without distractions."
